A cause way is a track of road,
railway on the highest point or upper point of an embankment across a water
logged area or a low or wet place. It is called as causeway in road.

A road causeway is paved dip which
allows the rain water or floods to pass over it. It may or may not have opening
or vents for low water to flow in the road. It is called as causeway in road.

to easily moved traffic over the wet land or canals extra.
The traditional meaning of a causeway is a road that is raised above water, marshland, wetland or sand . It is traditionally paved with pebbles or cobble stones .In modern usage, a causeway is a road on top of the embankment a long, artificial mound of earht or stone that is built across a wide body of water to hold it back as protection.

TYPES OF CAUSEWAY IN
ROAD OR BRIDGE-
HIGH LEVEL CAUSEWAY
LOW LEVEL CAUSEWAY
HIGH LEVEL CAUSEWAY-:
A high level causeway is submersible road bridge designed for
over the floods. Its formation level is fixed. No traffic during the flood for
more than 3 days at a time or not more than 6 times in a year.
LOW LEVEL CAUSEWAY-:
A low level causeway
has not vent to flow the water. The bed of small streams or rivers which remains
dry for most of year. In low level causeway construction involve heavy earth
work in cutting for bridge approaches.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF CAUSEWAYS AND RURAL ROADS AND ORDINARY DISTRICT ROADS
This paper discusses various aspects of the design and construction of causeways and rural roads and ordinary district roads . These causeways are generally used to provided river crossings to link villages roads with neighbouring towns but are often easily damaged because of inadequate resources have been allocated to their construction. The main types of causeway are:
(1) Non-vented causeways.
(2) Vented causeways.
(3) High level causeways and low levelcauseway.
The topics considered are:
(1) Common modes of failure of causeways, especially incase very wet weather.
(2) Previous guidelines for causeway design.
(3) Terminology used in the paper.
(4) Types of causeway.
(5) Characteristics of causeways constructed in the past.
(6) Discharge calculations.
(7) Protection works.
(8) Scour depth calculations.
(9) Relative merits of high level causeway and low level cause way.
(10) Ideal sites for the causeway construction.
(11) General features of all well-designed causeways.
(12) Special features of all well designed causeways. An appendix presents a nomo-graphic procedure for a approximated calculations to the length of the flanks to be protected when the vents of a causeways are obstructed.
